Driftwood Springs Neighborhood

Jeffery approached the black sedan with the nonchalance of a child running through a grassy field on a hot summer day. He casually looked through the rear window only to find the window was tinted a sever smoke color thwarting his attempt to look through the window. Passing the rear bumper, he could see the driver side window, though tented, was not as dark as the rearview window. Coolly he turned his head as he inched closer to the driver’s side window to take a better peek. To his disbelief, the seat was empty. I wonder where they could be!?

Just then a hand reached over his shoulder, clamping over his mouth, pulling him backwards. Jeffery screamed but his voice was muted by the black leather glove now starving his brain of the oxygen he needed. Jeffery reached back in an attempt to grab anything on this assailant that he could, but there wasn’t anything he could grasp. He’s got me! Momma help me! He’s got me! Jeffery thought in frantic gasps. He tried to drop to his butt to throw his attacker off balance, but all of his 110 lb. frame was supported by the strength of the attacker suspending Jeffery in midair. He began to kick wildly, while being pulled backwards, left shoe flying ahead of him landing 10 feet in the middle of the road. Jeffery mind racing, eyes darting, couldn’t seem to find a solution to his problem. He knew without a shadow of a doubt if he didn’t do something he could end up like Thomas. He didn’t want to die; he didn’t want to have his mother morn his loss like Mrs. Grant was morning the loss of her son.

He heard the latch of the trunk disengage and he knew he only had moments left. He screamed again. And again, it came out as a faint whisper. This is it. I’m not going to make it!

Suddenly, Jeffery, the car, the kidnapper, were all flooded with a bright light. One that could only be coming from that of a police car. Jeffery was dropped to the ground, head hitting the concrete as the trunk was slammed. He next heard the sound of the car dropping into gear and then speeding off.

The approaching car stopped next to the fallen boy. The driver of the car made his way over to Jeffery, “Are you okay son?”

Jeffery looked up to the officer to find it was Detective Wilson. “Yes, sir. Thank you! Thank you!” he said dropping his head to the chest of the detective eyes full of tears flowing down his cheeks.

“You’re safe son,” Wilson said, helping the young man to his feet. “I have already placed a call with the dispatcher. All patrol cars will be on the lookout for the vehicle and the person who did this to you; we will find him.”

Detective Wilson opened the front door of the car ushering Jeffery inside. “Sit here, I’ll get you to your parents’ house.
